Why I Chose to Write a Drama About Bullying Essay

The idea of doing a drama specifically about bullying came from a personal experience and from watching a documentary on television about a young fourteen years old girl named Dawin-Marie Wesley, that committed suicide after being bullied and teased by three girls in her school. After reading and further researching about this sensitive subject, I decided that I wanted to focus my major on children that get bullied, but instead of having a tragic ending I determined to contain the happy ending narrative of a child that gets bullied but manages to defeat his bullies by having the help of a friend. Although this is a very sensitive subject to talk about due to the consequence that it has on people, I intend to portray this story in a way†¦show more content†¦Nothing good comes out of bullying, that is why I decided to make something good out of this story, such as having an accurate representation of a character who suffers at the hands of his bullies. T.V violence, families in poverty and mis-teachings are just many of the several issues as to why bullying exists. This is seen as a major problem because children are easily influenced by the things they watch on television or by the things they read. At first I had difficulties in constructing a narrative idea as I believe that I was lacking inspiration to produce a good story. I tried thinking of ways to set a story within the terms of bullying and friends but at first it seemed to be very difficult because I did not know how to portray the story that I want to convey. I realised that the way forward was to root the film in character by following a personal story rather than a made up event. This meant that I will be able to create a film that is not too difficult but easy and straight to the point, whereby the story maintains as an engagement with the audience through out. This is when I realised that in order to get the audience’s attention to gain a better understanding about the issue in hand, I would demonstrate the story based on a Drama content, as I could give a completely honest and open portrayal that the viewer will understand. If I were to do this story as a documentary, I believe that it would have been a mu ch moreShow MoreRelated Media Violence is Not the Problem - The Problem is in Our Homes, our Schools, and our Communities3259 Words   |  14 Pagesat a practice shooting range six weeks before they carried out the real thing.
